My name is Lynn Henry and, like you, I love all animals particularly ponies and horses and I especially love children. For me, children belong with ponies like strawberries belong with cream!
Teaching is my passion and I was a biology teacher for ten years, but gave up this career to bring up my four young children. Living on a smallholding, it seemed natural to buy a pony for them to ride. Just one small problem, I knew nothing about ponies or riding. As a child I had never ridden, not even a beach donkey!
Looking at ponies through my children’s eyes, sharing their expectations, dreams and fears was a huge learning experience for me. I wanted what they wanted, to be safe and learn as much as possible about these little equines. This is where my journey with my children began eighteen years ago. Learning to ride and handle horses at the age of 36 becomes simple if you can look through the eyes of a child and a pony. This is where the idea for “Think Like a Pony” came from.
I have studied and trained with some of the leading figures in horsemanship and have extended my knowledge to include a holistic approach to horses. I am a horse and human healer, I have qualified as a horse Iridology practitioner after studying with Helen Collinson. I am also a qualified Shiatsu for horses practitioner with the Scottish school of Horse Shiatsu.
I have published Think Like A Pony Foundation book and Groundwork series of books through Kenilworth Press. More recently, I have published Think Like a Pony in the Saddle through Think Like a Pony Publishing. At the moment I am writing Think Like a Pony in the Saddle Workbook 2, which will be published in 2012. By taking this communication and understanding into riding, people can learn to develop harmony in their riding.
My Workbooks are aimed at children and their families but are used by a wide range of people! I also use private lessons, clinics, workshops and demonstrations, to teach people of all ages about the Think Like a Pony concept. My oldest pupil is 60 and my youngest is 3! I am passionate about providing an inspiring education in horsemanship which anyone can access.
I have developed the Think Like a Pony Club, which is an interactive learning resource for children and families. The aim of the club is to help children to understand how to improve the welfare of ponies by educating young riders and owners through a fun, positive and interactive approach. The Think Like a Pony principles provide a “way of life” for owners and their ponies.
You cannot form a friendship with any animal without empathy, understanding and respect. The Think Like a Pony ethos is to educate young people so that they understand how to communicate effectively with a pony.
I hope you enjoy this website and my Think Like a Pony Club website. Thank you to all my students both equine and human who have helped me to grow in understanding over the years.
It makes me very happy to help you discover your horsemanship journey. This is a journey that never ends, we are all learning and our ponies and horses are our best teachers!
